Millimeter Wave Dielectric Resonator Antenna for Off-Body Communications with Grooved GP

A low profile circularly polarized (CP) dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) is proposed for off-body communications. The challenge of achieving a precise DRA-feed alignment has been addressed by incorporating a second ground plane with a groove, in which the DRA is placed. The impact of the human body presence has been investigated using CST. The antenna offers a measured gain of 8.7 dBic at 28 GHz together with impedance and axial ratio (AR) bandwidths of 29% and 14%, respectively. Measurements and simulations are in close agreement.
