Design and Performance Analysis of a Low IL MMIC Bandpass Filter for 5G mmwave Applications

Bandpass filters that are used for mm-wave Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuit (MMIC) for 5g applications normally comes with high insertion loss (IL). In this project, an analysis and a design of a new improved BPF is being investigated. A low loss BPF using lumped distributed parameter is being designed. In order to achieve a lower insertion loss, improved Q-factor resonator alongside a low-loss coupling topology is used. A Dual-Composite Right Left Handed (D-CRLH) resonator is being used to achieve certain resonant frequency so as to realize mmwave applications. This method gives a new Bandpass filter that can achieve good frequency and have multiple transmission zeroes. The Q-factor of the resonators has been analyzed in order to meet the desired specifications. The MMIC bandpass filter with the new design and topology has been simulated and its parameters have been determined. Instead of the generic PCB designs, here, the GaAs is used as a substrate and the new BPF design is realized. The features from the designed BPF offer parameters which can be suitable for mm-ware 5G communication systems.
