Double loops control of fuel cell inverter with a MDSC based-PLL

Grid-tied renewable and alternative energy technologies have become vital players in the energy industry as they contribute to clean, cost-effective, and sustainable electricity production. They require power converters and proper control to ensure their effective integration into the grid. This investigation focuses on the grid-tied fuel cell inverter control. The control scheme uses outer and inner control loops to regulate the current and the voltage. The fuel cell inverter and grid are synchronized using a multiple delayed signal cancellations (MDSC)-based PLL. The system modelling and simulation are completed using Matlab (SimElectrical). The considered fuel cell inverter is modelled to convert 150 kW DC operating at 1 kV to 130 kW/ 413 V. Harmonics generated from switching power electronic devices inside the 3-level NPC inverter are mitigated using an LCL filter. The findings indicate that the adopted control scheme performs well, with the MDSC-based PLL providing faster and more accurate frequency and phase responses than the classical PLL.
