PAPR reduction in LFDMA systems using Modified Selective Mapping

High Peak-to-Average Power Ratio (PAPR) is a severe issue for single-carrier frequency division multiple access (SC-FDMA) systems, limiting it to a few applications. Selective Mapping (SLM) is a well-known PAPR reduction method that provides improved PAPR performance without signal distortion. To minimize the PAPR of Localized FDMA (LFDMA) signals for uplink transmission, a Modified Elephant Herding Optimization algorithm based SLM (MEHO-SLM) strategy is proposed in this paper. The improved method will address the optimization of phase rotation factors multiplied by the LFDMA sub-blocks in a typical SLM methodology, which is a combinatorial optimization challenge. A detailed investigation is performed to validate the effectiveness of the suggested method. The performance of MEHO-SLM-LFDMA system utilizing Quadrature Phase Shift Keying (QPSK) and Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM) schemes is compared to known optimization approaches in terms of Bit Error Rate (BER) and PAPR. The simulation results indicate that the proposed MEHO-SLM-LFDMA method will provide superior performance compared to the existing techniques while requiring less computational time.
