Investigation on Fuel Cell Membrane Based Zeta Converter to Minimize the Ripple Reduction

The effects of pollutants from regular fuel vehicles have caused the scientific world to move towards green energy sources. Even though various renewable energy sources exists, the perfect one to use as an energy source for electric vehicles (EVs) is the hydrogen energy. Fuel cell (FC) is a better source for electric vehicles as it has zero tail pipe emission and high efficiency compare to IC engine. The main issue for FC converters adoption to EVs is that it produces more voltage and current ripples. Therefore, this paper proposed Zeta converter to improve the performance of FC characteristics. Also, it discusses the types of FC membrane such as Alkaline, Molten carbonate, Solid oxide, Direct methanol, and Proton exchange membrane. The FC model is investigated and simulation results are evaluated in MATLAB/Simulink® platform.
