Design and analysis of FSS-based Polarizer for modern RADAR systems

In this paper, a frequency-selective surface (FSS) can be used in a new way to create a polarization scheme for modern RADAR systems. This one-layered FSS, which features three circles of varying radius, functions as a linear-to-circular (LTC) transmit array polarizer. After this polarizer has been implemented, its final performances are assessed by measuring the phase difference, conversion efficiency, axial ratio (AR) of three decibels, and ellipticity bandwidth (from 0 to 60 degrees). The suggested design has a maximum insertion loss of −45 dB and a relative bandwidth of 30% (7.303 GHZ to 10.422 GHz) with more than 90% conversion efficiency and Polarization Conversion Ratio (PCR). In the same frequency range, the co-polarized reflection coefficient is less than −10 dB. Full-wave simulations in CST verify that the radiation performance of the microstrip patch antenna is unaffected by the presence of either LP-CP polarization converter at the working frequencies.
