Rising-Sun Relativistic Magnetron with Secondary Electron Material Axially Locally Composite Cathode

The secondary electrons of the cathode are important electrons source of the electron cloud in the conventional cold cathode magnetron. However, in relativistic magnetrons, these secondary electrons were considered harmful to microwave power and were wasted. Therefore, two schemes of secondary electron material axially locally composite cathode were proposed in this paper, and these cathodes used some wasted secondary electrons to improve the output performance of relativistic magnetron. PIC simulation in CST Studio was carried out to calculate the performance of rising-sun relativistic magnetron with this kind of cathodes. The result showed that the power increased by 15.5% and the efficiency increased by 5% with the local secondary electron material composite cathode, compared with using the solid cathode. This paper indicated the potential value of secondary electrons in improving the performance of the relativistic magnetron, and provides a reference scheme for the further development of the relativistic magnetron.
