A Survey on the Internet of Musical Things: Environment Challenges, Standards, Services, and Future Visions

The Internet of Musical Things (IoMusT) is a multidisciplinary research field capable of fostering new applications and services for musical practice from the junction of digital and physical domains through information and communication technologies. Despite advantages, this area lacks standardization and formal definitions, especially in elaborating its environments. In this paper, we surveyed more than 80 articles to provide an overview of the main technological components necessary to allow the interconnection between devices that enable IoMusT concepts and applications. Our goal is to provide consistent material to guide researchers and developers on this topic. Finally, open questions and research challenges are also analyzed and discussed.
