Performance of a Cloud Radio Access Model with Correlated Dual Antennas

The connectivity of IoT systems may be improved with the aid of several promising wireless technologies such as the cloud radio access network (C-RAN). In C-RAN, the remote radio heads (RRHs) are commonly implemented with multiple antennas to provide the transceiver diversity. However, most existing studies for C-RAN were based on the assumption of uncorrelated antennas in RRHs. In this paper, for the case where the RRH has correlated dual antennas, we derive the closed-form expressions for outage probability and ergodic capacity. The results are applicable to the arbitrary path-loss exponent.
