An Efficient and Secure Key Management Scheme Using Fuzzy Logic in WSN

Wireless sensor networks are comprised of countless sensor nodes which are the basic functional unit of a network. The nodes will be deployed in a physical environment. These networks serve in different classes like surveillance, military, business, clinical applications, and other commercial purposes. It is crucial to provide these applications with an acceptable level of safety. Key management is one of the strategies utilized for keeping up with the security of these networks. In this paper, an advanced key administration framework for remote sensor networks is proposed, which consolidates fuzzy logic and AES encryption to improve the performance of the WSNs. The proposed framework uses fuzzy logic for cluster formation, and cluster head rotation, and utilizes the AES algorithm to encode the information. It falls in the classification of techniques that depend on hierarchical structures, in which the sensor nodes make use of predistribution as well as post-deployment mechanisms for the distribution of keys. The proposed key management uses fuzzy logic, which enhances security and energy efficiency. Thus, energy utilized by the network is reduced and the lifetime of the network is also improved. Simulation results indicate that our framework, compared with other key management frameworks, is more proficient regarding energy utilization, network lifetime, throughput, and connectivity. Moreover, our framework exhibits better resilience and resistance to attacks and has a longer network lifetime.
