VehMIR: Vehicle-borne Mobile Imaging Radar for Scattering Imaging Measurement in the Near-field Region

This paper presents a new vehicle-borne mobile imaging radar (VehMIR) for scattering imaging measurement in the near-field region. Compared with current systems, VehMIR features its mobile ability most prominently. This ena-bles on-the-scene measurement for targets that are not easily moved and set, like the fighter jet. Apart from this, first, the system is more flexible. In coordination with the mobility, a re-tractable and adjustable cross-shape planar scanner is designed. These enable indoor/outdoor measurements, providing multi angle and multidimensional results. Second, the system is more ef-ficient. A high-speed transceiver and a parallel processing chain with a streaming-structure are designed for efficiency from the hardware and software aspects, respectively. And the trans-ceiver is also multi-band with ultra-bandwidth. Together, they enable real-time multi-band high-resolution measurements. Third, the system is more sensitive. A stable signal chain inte-grated with high-power amplified output is designed. It enables ultra-low scattering measurements. Detailed designs of the system, including considerations, composition, layout, and key technologies, are given. The results of preliminary experiments are presented, showing promising performance in large/small-scale multi-dimensional and ultra-low scattering measurements.
