Designing Gather.town as a Learning Space in a Laboratory Module to Facilitate Social Interaction

During the Covid-19, universities globally had to adopt online learning. After more than two years of online learning, the excessive use of conferencing platforms has led to students feeling exhausted and unmotivated New phrases such as “Zoom Fatigue” have emerged to describe this phenomenon. Here, we present Gather.town as a learning space for a laboratory module. Gather.town is an online platform that allows educators to construct individualized space and foster teamwork through the activity. This paper describes the pilot session and presents preliminary findings. Future work involves evaluating the application of Gather.town.
