An IoT based Watering System for Tomato Crop on Smart Agriculture

A well-designed irrigation system is essential for healthy tomato growth and to yield maximum harvests. Soil moisture and air temperature are the most important considerations that must be made while watering tomatoes in conventional methods. Planting tomatoes requires soil moisture of 60–80 percent and a temperature range of 24–28 degrees Celsius. In order to solve the issue of an explicit watering system determined by air temperature rate and soil moisture, farmers still need a technological innovation of smart agriculture that can be managed remotely by the help of the modern internet. This is addressed by adding attributes such as humidity, light intensity and moisture content level. The proposed novel system uses an Arduino UNO, a soil moisture sensor, ESP8266 chip and sensor of type DHT11. Additionally, a Web Application was integrated into the system’s design for remote control. It is used to see the sensor’s readings and water the plants automatically. The suggested approach in greenhouse environment showed that the system could successfully irrigate, keep soil wet and regulate air temperature. Using this smart technology, farm producers can monitor and irrigate their tomato plants successfully.
