Effect of Icing Gap during Galloping on Operating Reliability of 10 kV Distributed Overhead Lines

The traditional bare conductor of10 kV overhead line is replaced by insulated conductor in recent years so as to enhance the reliable power supply capacity of the distribution network. Due to the structure of insulating-layer, the electric field characteristic is a new characteristic shown during galloping of 10 kV overhead line. The 10 kV overhead icing conductor of 3D simulation model is established by the finite element analysis software. The electric field distribution of the conductor under different lengths of icing gap during the conductor galloping process is calculated. The results show that the distribution of electric field of the insulating-layer will be significantly changed by the change of icing gap length. The strength of conductor insulating-layer’s electric field will occur a step change up to 20 kV/cm when the length of the icing gap increases. Conductor galloping and the change length of icing gap will cause the variation of insulating-layer electric field, which will affect the mechanical and electrical strength of insulating-layer, and then affect the normal operation of10 kV distribution overhead line.
