Investigation of Influence Waveguide Diameter on Output Signal in Magnetostrictive Displacement Transducers Taking into Account the Phenomenon of Surface Effect

The article is devoted to the study of influence waveguide diameter on the output signal in magnetostrictive linear and angular displacement converters at the stages from formation of recording current pulses and their flow in the waveguide medium to its reading, taking into account the phenomenon of surface effect. The need to study this direction is due to the fact that the study of the phenomenon of the surface effect in conjunction with the processes from the formation of current pulses to the output signal when changing the diameter of the waveguide has not been previously considered in open sources. Studies have shown that, depending on the frequency of oscillations of current pulses, current propagation is observed in the section of the waveguide in an external cylindrical layer with a thickness of several percent of its diameter. The influence of the waveguide diameter on the magnetic flux formed by the solenoid and the output signal is studied taking into account the phenomenon of the surface effect. Studies have shown the possibility of replacing a solid cylinder waveguide with a hollow one. Abroad, in particular at MTS Sensors (USA) in Temposonics sensors, as well as in MTL series sensors (China), this phenomenon is used in commercially manufactured waveguides of the hollow cylinder shape. In Russia, so far only waveguides of the solid cylinder shape are used and mass-produced, although the use of waveguides of the hollow cylinder shape is economically advantageous, since it reduces the consumption of waveguide material.
