A Brushless Monopolar Generator with Longitudinal Excitation from Nonsalient Poles

This article describes an improved design of a longitudinally excited generator with a three-phase output voltage. Unlike most conventional electrical machines, in such a generator the magnetic field lines are closed in the direction longitudinal to the axis of rotation. The rotor of such a generator has two sets of poles at its ends, and its stator consists of rods with output windings and excitation coils placed around the circumference of the non-magnetic stator. Thus, the generator stator does not have a yoke, and the rods with coils can be located in a plastic non-magnetic housing. The advantage is the ease of assembly of the structure and the absence of brushes on the rotor. Such a generator is new, and different from everything that was invented before - the results of the study of its model showed the possibility of using it in wind turbines of small and medium power. A simple method for choosing the main dimensions and the number of turns of the windings has been developed.
