Static Analysis and Failure Mode Calculation of the Cup-type Tower under the Sandstorm Weather

In northwestern China, there are many transmission towers passing through Gobi and desert. Therefore, to study the harm of the sandstorm to the transmission tower, the static responses of a cup-type tower under the sandstorm are got with the finite element method. Based on the sandstorm weather rating, the wind-sand load is simplified and a fitting curve model of TSP concentration-wind speed relation is proposed. The static wind-sand load model is proposed. The results of the static responses of the cup-type tower under the sandstorm demonstrate that the static responses and the tower top displacement increase as the wind direction angle increases. In addition, some weak elements of main material which are part of the tower body and the tower leg has exceeded the steel yield strength under the wind-sand load of 30m/s, 90°. At the same time, the weakest pole is modelled and simulated, and its static responses are analyzed, which can provide theory guidance for further study on the safety performance analysis of the transmission tower under the sandstorm.
