CES and UPFC based Supplementary Control Mechanism for Stability of Multi Area Power System under IDDF Regulator

In this paper, the load frequency control (LFC) of a simple multi-area hydro-thermal system (SMAHT) system is investigated. The newest controller of the fruit fly algorithm (FFA) optimized integral double derivative plus filter (IDDF) is presented an analysis of the SMAHT system is conducted by subjugating area-1 with 10% step load disturbance (10%SLD). However, the efficacy of the IDDF is revealed by comparing it with the PID and PIDD controllers. The realistic constraint of time delays (TD) is believed with the SMAHT system for practical analysis. The investigation on SMAHT is further extended to the incorporation of capacitive energy storage (CES) units in each area and the unified power flow controller (UPFC) with the tie-line as a supplementary control mechanism. Simulation results reveal the improvement in SMAHT performance with the CES-UPFC supplementary control approach. Sensitivity analysis is conducted by subjecting the SMAHT to various loadings and the robustness of the IDDF regulator and adopted CES-UPFC supplementary control mechanism is presented.
