State of Charge Estimation and Analysis For an Electric Vehicle

The widespread use of fossil fueled transportation has had a significant impact on the global environment. Gases like carbon dioxide and methane are released into the atmosphere when fossil fuels are used in cars and other vehicles, which contributes to climate change on a worldwide scale. Additionally, emissions from transportation are a major source of air pollution, leading to respiratory illnesses and other health issues. As a result, electric vehicles (EVs) are becoming more and more necessary as a cleaner and more sustainable mode of transportation. When charged with renewable energy sources, EVs have no tailpipe emissions and greatly lower their overall carbon footprint when it comes to greenhouse gas emissions. One of the most critical components of an EV is its battery, as it determines the car's range, charging capacity, and overall driving experience. The design and analysis of the battery is crucial in estimating the state of charge and understanding the overall efficiency of the EV. This project aims to develop a model that takes in various parameters and conditions related to the EV, such as battery voltage, current, initial SOC, the drive cycle and estimates the final state of charge based on them. This data will be processed in MATLAB to produce meaningful outputs in the form of graphical representation. The model will use simulink modelling techniques to accurately predict the output, taking into account the influence of various variables and conditions. The outcome of this project will provide an thorough analysis of the SOC and its relationship with different parameters and situations. The insights of this study will be valuable in optimizing the performance and efficiency of the EV, as well as in guiding future research and development efforts in this field. The project will also serve as a valuable resource for EV manufacturers, owners, and operators, providing insights into the critical aspects of EV battery performance and efficiency.
