Analysis of the Interlayer Coupling Impact on the Impedance and Transmission of a 3-layer Unit Cell Embedded on a Radome

This work describes a procedure to analyze the impedance and transmission of an active three-layer unit cell considering the interlayer coupling. Using the unit cell full wave simulation and its ABCD parameters, one calculates the layers’ admittance considering the coupling and compares them with the results of a methodology neglecting the coupling. This comparison shows a difference up to 60% between the coupling and no coupling reactance calculations. Furthermore, the reactance variation impacts the transmission phase coverage.
