A Low Power Differential ISFET-pH Lab-On-Chip for Remote Cell Monitoring

pH sensors are used to measure the change in the ion concentration of any solution of interest. This paper presents a lab-on-chip with data transmitting capability to measure pH for biomedical applications. The proposed lab-on-chip consists of an ISFET-based pH sensor front end to measure the change in ion concentration of biological cells, a VCO to digitize the output data from the analog front end, a Bluetooth transmitter, and an antenna to transmit the data from the testing point to the data-storing and monitoring point placed inside the same laboratory where the cells are located. All circuits are designed and simulated using a standard 180 nm CMOS technology and the total power is consumption 62.1 mW.
