Implementation of Neuron Astrocyte Interaction Dynamics

Several studies have reported that astrocytes play an important role in neuronal metabolism, plasticity, survival, and information processing. Early research using models of neuronal-astrocyte interactions has shown great results, and further research in this area is worth pursuing. This study surveyed various neuron and astrocyte models and their software and hardware implementations to understand the differences between the existing models and their potential applications. The neuron-astrocyte model with an application in self-repair was selected. The self-repair model has been successfully reproduced in the software. The model demonstrated a performance degradation of less than 10% for up to 80% fault rate in conditions of both partial and severe fault. The self-repair mechanism of the models provides the system with a high degree of tolerance to system failures.
