Reinforcing Renewable Resources for Sustainable Future of Bangladesh

The progress of any nation is intrinsically linked to its industrial development, which in turn is largely contingent on the generation of electricity. However, with the depletion of natural resources and soaring fuel prices, emerging economies such as Bangladesh have been struggling to optimize the cost of electricity generation. Therefore, it has become imperative to give greater impetus to alternative energy resources like solar and wind power due to their cost-effectiveness and widespread availability, which can ensure sustainable energy development in the near future. This paper highlights the current state of affairs pertaining to primary natural resources utilized for electricity generation in Bangladesh, which predominantly involves the use of natural gas. It also underscores the fact that the excessive reliance on gas-based power plants has led to a precarious energy situation, fraught with frequent power outages and other disruptions. Hence, there is an urgent need to popularize renewable sources of energy that have hitherto been overlooked, in order to mitigate the current energy crisis. However, the challenges associated with implementing these resources are also discussed, highlighting the importance of finding viable solutions to overcome these obstacles.
