Robust Hybrid Control of PID Controller for Interarea Oscillation in Multi Machine Systems

Now a days with development of interconnected power grids the inter area low frequency oscillation problem is becoming more outstanding in present snerioa. This undesirable phenomenon may cause very serious problems such as the loss of interconnects, load curtailments and even system blackouts There are many PSS devices made but requirement of an efficient PSS for controlling power oscillation parameter without increasing system complexity is needed. In this paper a Sugeno type Fuzzy-PID Controller is designed to improve the dynamic stability of power system. This paper is also intended to explore the technologies for improving the state of the art in all the aspects. The various advantages of the proposed hybrid controller is that the fuzzy rules are derived from the intuitive physical explanation of Equal Area Criterion Theory, it also helps in solving the parameter setting difficulty of fuzzy controller. The proposed work is done in Matlab.In this paper comparative analysis of Hybrid-PSS and conventional PSS-PID has been studied. The result obtained gives information that hybrid-PSS controller based power system stabilizer is more than the conventional PID-PSS. The damping time required by proposed Sugeno type Fuzzy-PID hybrid controller is 80% less as compare to PID PSS.
