Performance Analysis of Grid-Tied Rooftop Solar Photovoltaic System Using MATLAB App Designer

The output of a grid-tied Rooftop Solar Photovoltaic System (RTSPVS) depends upon several parameters. In this paper, authors have designed and verified a novel Performance Analyzer using MATLAB App Designer for analyzing the performance of existing grid-tied RTSPVS. Studies were carried out for an existing grid-tied 2kWp RTSPVS installed over the roof of Measurements and Instrumentation Laboratory at Department of Electrical Engineering at Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur, India (VNIT). The app calculates the technical parameters such as energy generated, array yield, final yield, system loss etc. Apart from the technical parameters, app calculates the curtailment amount of CO
2
, N$\mathrm{O}_{\mathrm{x}}$, SO
2
and ash curtailment. The inputs required from the user are: capacity of the existing RTSPVS and the rated parameters. The resultant technical parameters for an existing grid-tied RTSPVS obtained from the designed app are then verified with the calculated parameters after downloading the data from data logger. The results obtained on MATLAB App designer are slightly higher than actual due to assumed standard constants for app development and ignoring local weather and shading conditions. The annual average value of Performance Ratio (PR) obtained as a result from the designed app is 0.7681. The annual average of calculated values of PR after downloading the data from data logger found out to be 0.7588. Results shows that the PR values are within the specified range as mentioned in the standard guidelines by Government of India.
