Optimum Strategy for PMU Channel Reductions for Smart Grid Data Measurement

For smart grid implementation, one of the most essential requirements is fast, precise and efficient synchronized measurements, which are possible by Phasor measurement unit. PMU is incredibly expensive. Therefore, the goal of the optimal PMU placement is to minimize the number of PMUs placed in the power grid while achieving full system observability. Priority may be given at generator buses to try to achieve OPP. Differential Evolution is employed in this proposed study to produce OPP with fully observability conditions for the base case and contingency case. The standard IEEE 14 bus system, IEEE 30 bus system, and IEEE 57 bus system are all used using the proposed technique. The results demonstrate the ability of the recommended strategy to identify the best way to decrease the number of PMUs and PMU channels while sustaining full observability. The results are compared with those from other techniques to demonstrate the robustness method.
