A Series-Fed Horizontally-Polarized Patch Antenna Array

A new Series-Fed horizontally-polarized (HP) patch antenna array is presented in this paper. A 2×3-element subarray is designed first, which is formed by two parallelly placed Series-Fed 1×3-element subarrays, realizing HP radiation. The two 1×3-element subarrays are fed simultaneously by a microstrip line from an H-shaped coupling slot on the ground. The simulation shows that the -10-dB relative impedance bandwidth of the 2×3-element subarray is 16.1%, from 9.7 to 11.4 GHz, and the broadsight gain is better than 9.1 dBi with a peak reaching 11.9 dBi within the band. To obtain a higher gain, based on the 2×3-element subarray, a 2×12-element array fed by a 1-to-4 power divider is then designed. The simulated results show that the −10-dB impedance bandwidth of the proposed 2×12-element array is 15.0% ranging from 9.9 to 11.5 GHz, and the broadsight gain is better than 13.4 dBi with a peak reaching 17.4 dBi within the band.
