A Novel Efficient PV based Power Filter for Single Phase Grid System

A system to use Photo-Voltaic (PV) cell-based shunt active power filter (SAPF) for single phase system. The harmonic distortion in power lines is considerable due to the excessive connecting of non-linear loads to the grid. Due to this the power quality of the system is degraded to a poor level, which increases the Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) level. A filtering method is implemented so that the harmonics can be removed from the system. Through the p-q control theory the distortion is analyzed and the compensation for the distorted waveform is achieved. The controller injects opposite waveform to the distorted waveform to nullify the distortion. The PV cell provides the suitable voltage for the filtration of the harmonic distortion. Also, a suitable fuel-cell based shunt active power filter is designed and implemented to analyze the data of both PV-cell and fuel-cell. The PV cell provides a much stable voltage level resulting in a constant and more efficient filtration compared to the filtration technique achieved by the fuel-cell based filter. The results for the filter using both PV cell and fuel cell are analyzed and compared using the Simulink and MATLAB environment.
