Lessons Learned from the Development of a Computerised Badge-based Reward Tool for Student Engagement in Learning Activities

Learner's engagement is a continuous desideratum whose main purpose is to enhance academic achievements and subsequently the development of hard and soft skills. Increasingly, gamification techniques were adopted to embody manifold in-class activities and tasks. Indeed, it intends to promote enjoyment and positive perception for participants during learning activities. Thus, gamification principles may empower instructors to promote understanding, to reinforce knowledge acquisition and retention, stimulating the development of skills and competencies prone to produce learner's' intrinsically behavioral changes. This study aims to describe the agile development life cycle of a computerized gamified badge-based reward system encompassed by a myriad of elements, such as: mobile app, website, Firebase database, and Firebase API. On the one hand, the benefits and challenges of agile methodologies are presented. On the other hand, the merits of the following architecture which combined front and back-end is also highlighted
