A Novel Way to Detect the Islanding Condition Using PSO and Control the Voltage Current of DG Using A PI Controller

In the event of a utility interruption, a distributed generating source intentionally island itself to keep delivering electricity to nearby loads. Several DGs such as renewable energy sources combined to give electrical energy is referred to as a micro-grid. When the micro-grid connection is an ‘‘Intentional Islanding Mode’’ since it is isolated from the rest of the utility network. The micro-grid operates in constant control mode during grid-connected mode to supply present power to the main grid. An islanding detection algorithm switches the inverter into voltage control technique when the grid is disconnected. The control approach for implementing the islanding function of micro-grids is described in this paper. With the use of the Particle Swarm optimization (PSO) technology, this paper suggests an adaptive load-shedding strategy for an islanded mode of operation. Two algorithms are proposed in the paper, one to operate on the grid-connected scenario and another for operating on intentional islanding.
