Experimental and Automated Setup to Control the White Liquor Flow for Enhanced Paper Quality

Using a Rapid Displacement Heating plant (RDH), wood chips such as casuarinas and hybrids are converted into cooked pulp. In the present system, moisture measurement is taken in the lab by random bases, which may lead to tribulations like inappropriate liquor addition, variations in the properties of the pulp, increase or decrease in chemical consumption, knot problems, brightness and residual variations of the pulp. In order to avoid the aforementioned challenges, this study intends to measure the moisture on weight basis by using load cell. Here, the moisture is measured by comparing the present weight of wood chips with constant known weight of wood chips. According to the change in weight, flow of liquor to the particular batch in the digester is changed, which results in the optimization of liquor usage in all stages from washing to bleaching by providing better performance and accelerated productivity. The proposed method has utilized electrical components and further the continuous motoring is done through SCADA.
