Modeling of Partially Filled Waveguide Structures with Magnetic Walls on a Mushroom-Shaped Metamaterial

Nowadays composite structures with unusual properties not found in nature called metamaterials are becoming increasingly popular and are widely used in microwave engineering. In this paper, we apply mushroom metamaterials as wide walls of a rectangular waveguide and present modeling results for three different waveguide structures. In the first part of the paper, a computer simulation of a partially dielectric-filled rectangular waveguide with a cross section of 74.14 mm by 34.04 mm is presented. The dielectric plate is placed parallel to the wide wall of the waveguide. In the second part, the dielectric plate in the waveguide is replaced with a magnetic wall made of mushroom metamaterial. In the third part, a waveguide with two magnetic walls is investigated. In the course of modeling, the frequency dependences of the distribution of complex reflection and transmission coefficients, as well as the voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) are obtained for the three designs.
