Optimal Configuration of Stand-Alone Hybrid Energy System in New Tiba City, Luxor, Egypt

Small-grid projects for the production of electricity can be easily integrated into the energy production strategy, which can be linked to the public network or work as independent networks serving remote areas. This paper describes an approach for the optimal configuration of a standalone hybrid energy system (HES) in New Tiba City located in the northeast of Luxor City, Egypt. This HES consists of photovoltaic (PV) panels and wind turbines as the main energy source and the backup power supply includes a battery storage system and diesel generator. A new stochastic nature-inspired optimization algorithm called Pelican Optimization Algorithm (POA) is used to obtain and select the size of the system units, which can be suitable for modeling and optimized with the least Cost of Energy (COE), Net Present Cost (NPC). The findings of the POA approach were compared with using other optimization algorithms CSA (Chameleon Swarm Algorithm) and HBA (Honey Badger Algorithm) to show the POA effectiveness. The results show the effectiveness of the POA algorithm to solve the optimal economic design problem for hybrid microgrid power systems with the best NPC, and COE 7,269,332.55 $, 0.248180825$/kWh, respectively.
