Effect of Exciton Dissociation and Recombination Losses in Perovskite Photovoltaic Cells

In this work, we have designed an n-i-p structure (FTO/TiO2/CH3NH3PbI3/Spiro-OMeTAD/Au) perovskite photovoltaic cell (PPV). The effect of exciton dissociation on the characteristic parameters i.e., open-circuit voltage (VOC), short-circuit current density (JSC), fill-factor (FF), and the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of the device has been studied. The influence of free-to-free carrier (bi-molecular) recombination on the performance of the device has also been investigated. The study concludes that PCE of 29.79% can be achieved with CH3NH3PbI3 based PPV if a good fraction of excitons is converted into free carriers, and the bi-molecular recombination remains within the adequate limits. All the results are obtained by using general-purpose photovoltaic device model, namely, OghmaNano.
