Game-Based Applications and Control towards Future Smart Grids

In the modern power systems, more uncertainties emerge due to the implementation of increasing renewable generations, causing challenges in system operations and may potentially impact system responses/integrity. As a powerful tool to deal with uncertainties and to improve the decision making process, game theory has been widely used in recent years to deal with various problems in power system engineering. To demonstrate the relevant works, this paper firstly presents the basics of various games and their key features. Then, the applications of game theory dealing with various issues in power systems are reviewed from perspective of decision logics in game theory. Finally, to overcome the problems of the existing game-based control, a generalized semi-tensor product (STP)-based method is proposed to achieve ideal equilibria in networked evolutionary games, which can better solve various problems towards future smart grid.
