A CFD Study of Deposition Characteristics of Particles in Three-dimensional Heat Transfer Channel with Dimple-type Roughness Elements

The deposition of particles in the heat transfer channel will cause a serious decrease in the heat transfer efficiency. It is of great significance for energy engineering and thermal engineering application to understand the characteristics of particle deposition. In this study, the Reynolds stress model (RSM) and discrete particle model (DPM) were used to simulate the particle deposition in the three-dimensional dimple rough channel. The random walk model (DRW) was used to simulate the turbulent diffusion of particles. The particle deposition rate of the dimple rough channel was analyzed by grid-independent test and numerical verification. The results show that the turbulence structure, secondary flow, thermal force distribution, gravity settlement, and inertia of particles are the main mechanisms affecting the deposition characteristics of particles in the dimple pipeline, and the effects of these factors are also very different when the particle size is different.
