DSLIM Design, Modelling & Simulation of Electro-Magnetic Launch System for medium weight UAV

Linear Induction Motors (LIM) are fancied for high-speed linear motion application in commercial, Industrial & military field due to its advantages like ruggedness and low maintenance. However, Double Sided Linear Induction Motor with primary static and secondary moving is best suitable for EMLS of medium weight 300–400 kilogram Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV). This configuration has the advantage of low energy and power requirement in comparison to other configurations. Hence this configuration will also reduce the size of other power components like motor, drive, cables & power source. In this paper, 2.5 MW DSLIM Design, Modelling & Simulation is presented for launching 400 kilogram payload at 40 m/s speed. DSLIM Design, Modelling & Simulation is performed in ANSYS MAXWELL software tool.
