Design and Development of Hybrid Power Conditioning System for Microgrid Application

Microgrids are having a great research interest because of its suitability and adaptability for wide range of applications from remote rural electrification to power solutions for critical infrastructure. When considering the global presence of microgrid, almost forty percentages belong to remote microgrids. Apart from remote electrification, microgrid can contribute a lot to provide quality power to commercial establishments, educational institutions, residential complexes etc. The dual active bridge (DAB) base bidirectional dc-dc converter is one of the most promising converter topologies for such applications, due to its greater benefits of high-power density, bidirectional power flow, zero-voltage switching, electrical isolation, symmetrical structure etc. This paper tries to elaborate design and development of a hybrid Power Conditioning System realized using dual active bridge-based dc-dc converter and three phase four-wire inverter where the renewable energy source and the battery storage are interfaced by DAB converters and loads are supplied with AC side.
