A Fast Analysis Method Based on Characteristic Mode Method for Large Scale Array Structure

The traditional characteristic mode (CM) approach has been proposed to analyze finite array structures, but it is still expensive for array structures with very large scale. An improved CM method is presented in this paper. Firstly, the CMs of the array element are used as the high-order basis function to reduce the number of unknowns for the array structures. Then, the reduced MoM matrix equation are reduced again utilizing the CMs of a subarray, which can be regarded as the higher-order basis functions. Due to the consideration of coupling between the elements in the subarray, the proposed scheme can further reduce the number of unknowns and improve the efficiency. A numerical example is given to validate the proposed method.
