A Frequency-scanning Millimeter Wave Antenna Based on Phase Transforming of Slow-Wave Fin-line

In this paper, a phase-transforming slow-wave finline structure is proposed, and a frequency scanning antenna (FSA) is designed based on these structures. This fin-line structure has a transverse slot array to obtain slow phase velocity and establish phase difference required by the FSA. Both the slow-wave fin-lines and the radiators provides low reflection essentially below -10 dB in the 24 GHz - 36 GHz band of the FSA. In this band, the antenna can scan from -24° to 26°, and the range is -9° to 11° when sidelobe level is lower than -5 dB. The FSA structure can be used for radar manufacturing and target detection in the MMW band, and phase-transforming slow-wave fin-line also show application potential in MMW component design.
