An Internal Antenna Solution for Wi-Fi 6E Routers

Wi-Fi 6E expands the original 2.4/5 GHz band with an additional 6 GHz band, placing higher requirements on antennas. This paper first introduces the most commonly used monopole and dipole antennas and the emerging WHEMS (Wideband High-efficiency Electromagnetic Structure) antennas in the context of Wi-Fi router applications. Then the advantages and shortcomings of these antennas are analyzed based on the background of Wi-Fi 6E. Finally, a possible antenna solution based on the WHEMS for Wi-Fi 6E routers is proposed in this paper. The antenna achieves omnidirectional coverage in 2.4/5/6 GHz Wi-Fi tri-band with a single compact element, which can improve the appearance of traditional routers while ensuring the performance of the products.
