Effect of stiffness and damping of spring on power flow in a vibration system

This study is related to the vibration transmission properties of a system with stiffness and damping. It aims to investigate the effect of stiffness and damping on the vibration of a single-isolation system based on the power flow approach. A power flow mode method based on the real part of the power is presented, implying the time-average energy flowing into the system. It is future applied to study the effect of stiffness and damping, making it possible to define the energy input, transmission, and dissipation with the vary of stiffness and damping. The results show that the maximum power is supplied when the excitation frequency is equal to the undamped natural frequency. If the excitation is at a fixed frequency, there exists damping or stiffness that the maximum power is supplied. The study provides essential guidelines for designing the stiffness and damping of a system to eliminate its vibration.
