An Improved High-Latitude HF Channel Model Based on Ray Tracing with Time-varying Parameter Factor

HF ionospheric channel is an important means to test and evaluate the performance of the HF communication system. However, channel measurement in polar regions is expensive, difficult and time-consuming. Therefore, it is of great application value to study the HF wideband channel modeling method suitable for polar regions and obtain the required channel model under laboratory conditions only through computer simulation. Aiming at the problem that it is difficult to reflect the strong time-varying of the high-latitude ionosphere due to the fixed time parameters of ray tracing, an improved high latitude HF channel model based on ray tracing with time-varying parameter factor is proposed, which can match the real time-varying of the high latitude ionosphere is proposed. Considering the different ray propagation paths under different conditions, the time-varying parameter factor is introduced into ray tracing combined with the high-latitude ionospheric model, which will dynamically adjust the time range of observing electron concentration changes, so as to better match the time variability of the high-latitude ionosphere and provide more accurate parameters. Compared with the ray tracing only using the IRI model, the simulation results show that the propagation mode, propagation delay and Doppler shift of the proposed model are closer to the measurements in terms of the available time range, value and variation trend, which are better coincident with the real variation of the high latitude HF channel.
