A Comparative Analysis of Two-phase and Three-phase Interleaved Bidirectional DC-DC Converter

Bidirectional DC-DC converter topology is typically vital in systems demanding bidirectional power exchange. It is widely incorporated in microgrids, composite energy storage systems, electric vehicles, etc. The architecture is interleaved to enhance the power handling capacity and reduce the ripple current at the input side. Interleaving allows current sharing among different phases, reducing the size of the filter inductor as well as input and output capacitors, thereby enhancing the power density of the converter. - phase non-isolated bidirectional DC-DC converter. The closed-loop simulation of a two-phase and a three-phase non-isolated interleaved bidirectional DC-DC converter is carried out in MATLAB/Simulink considering both boost and buck mode of operation. The results showcase equal current sharing among different phases, thus reducing the input current ripple, minimized dimensions of filter elements and improved thermal distribution of the converter.
