Study of Impact of Electric Vehicle Integration in Unbalanced Distribution System

The Electrical Power System is transitioning owing to various factors such as climate change, technological advancement, addition of special electric loads and a shift of focus towards sustainable development. The electrification of the transportation sector is a promising solution to combat environmental concerns. The global electric vehicle market has expanded gradually over time and is expected to augment at an exponential rate in Indian scenario. Electric vehicles (EVs) provide more energy security due to their dispatch able nature. There are various services that can be provided by EVs in the distribution network when worked upon in a coordinated manner. Traditionally, the impact of EV integration has been studied in balanced distribution networks. In this paper we have modelled the EV fleet in the unbalanced IEEE 13-bus distribution network using OpenDSS and the impact of EV deployment has been observed.
