Survey on Congestion Control Approaches in 4G/5G Cellular Networks

In the last few decades, cellular networks have undergone a massive evolution. Cellular networks support high bit rates with low loss rates in data transmission. But the applications that use cellular networks face congestion related challenges. To overcome this issue and to improve the network performance 4G/5G networks are proposed. As the need for video streaming and multimedia transfer increases, the problems associated with these applications also become more real. One of the main challenges faced when transferring large amounts of data of varying formats is Network Congestion. This leads to problems like low throughput, ineffective bandwidth utilization, and high delay. These issues can be majorly attributed to the fact that the advancement in the transport layer has not been as rapid as the increase in the needs of cellular networks. In this survey, we will be looking at some of the commonly used congestion control algorithms and examining the reasons why these algorithms work well or do not work well for 4G/5G cellular networks..
