A Novel Electromagnetically Coupled Dual Band Microstrip Planar Antenna for Ku/Ka Band Wireless Communications

This work proposes a novel 10 GHz / 40 GHz dual-band antenna designed for Ka-band for 5G, military, and space applications and Ku band for satellite applications. The proposed antenna has been made on Rogers RO 3003 (lossy) substrate with a thickness of 0.762 mm. The proposed antenna has been EM coupled at various levels to improve the parameters of the antenna, such as S-Parameters, efficiency, gain, and directivity far-field. The proposed antenna has three layers of patches which are Electro-magnetically coupled with each other in which one of the patches is connected to the feed line of the antenna and the rest of the two layers are Electro-magnetically with a compact footprint of 40 mm x 30 mm which makes the antenna highly compact to be used in handheld devices. The ground of the antenna is a Half Ground Structure with an elliptical shape and a DGS that has been incorporated to improve various characteristics of the antenna such as gain, efficiency, S-Parameter, and VSWR. The proposed antenna can be used for wireless devices which demand low profile, high directivity, gain, efficiency, low attenuation levels, and excellent radiation characteristics.
