AQuad-Band Monopole Antenna using Metamaterial Inspired SRRs for Mobile Applications

A compact-sized quad-band monopole antenna for 5G, Radiolocation, and WLAN services is presented in this paper. The proposed antenna employs a metamaterial-inspired elliptical split ring on the top surface of the FR4 substrate to form a monopole antenna and an SRR unit cell on the partial ground plane. The SRR unit cell on the ground plane is a combination of the pentagonal and the circular SRR. The four operating frequency bands resulting from the proposed design are 2.3-2.4 GHz (n40- 5G NR/WCS), 2.8-3.2 GHz (radio location services), 5.7-5.85 GHz (WLAN), and 6.4-6.87 GHz(Wi-Fi 6E) respectively. The peak gain values at 2.35 GHz, 2.9GHz, 5.75 GHz, and 6.6 GHz are found to be 0.55 dBi, 2.02 dBi, 2.60 dBi, and 3.21 dBi respectively.
