Multiple Feedforward with Feedback Based Control of Shunt Hybrid Active Filter for Fast Dynamic Performance

Dynamically varying industrial non-linear loads cause serious power quality problems that requires compensation strategies having fast dynamic response along with steady state performance as per standards. This study presents a novel approach to improve dynamical performance of shunt hybrid active power filter using multiple feedforward control at dominant harmonic frequencies coupled with feedback control. Multiple feedforward control involves introduction of active capacitance/inductance in series with passive LC filter at dominant harmonic frequencies. Dual compensation through parallel operation of feedforward and feedback control at dominant harmonic frequencies provides superior dynamic response compared to control strategies proposed in contemporary literature.
