Performance Study on Single Phase PWM Rectifier fed Direct Torque Controlled–Induction Motor Drive

Induction motor drives are widely employed in industries for their simplicity in construction, ease of maintenance, and mature control strategy. For various applications, an induction motor is used in closed loop mode, for which a DC link voltage has to be maintained for the inverter operation. In general, AC to DC converters are used to maintain the DC link voltage, and power quality on the AC side is also a major concern when feeding a highly nonlinear load such as an induction motor drive. In this aspects, a study has been carried out on a single phase PWM rectifier, feeding a Direct Torque Controlled-Induction Motor (DTC-IM) drive. The IM drive is operated in all four quadrant mode, and the performance of the PWM rectifier has been studied. Various parameters on the grid side such as power factors, % Total Harmonic Distortion (T.H.D) and conversion efficiency are observed.
